Join Davidson Galleries in Pioneer Square on Thursday, September 17 at 5 PM for their 44th Anniversary Auction Party. This special occasion is not just a great opportunity for collectors to gather and purchase pieces from the gallery’s extensive collection of antique and contemporary prints. It also supports the esteemed gallerist, Beth Cullom, who has been a crucial advocate for the local arts community for many years.

When Cullom opened her own gallery space in 2007 in the mezzanine space above Davidson Galleries, she was already known in the community for her expertise and passion for works on paper and woodblock prints. Cullom’s initial focus was the work of historic and contemporary Japanese woodblock print artists, but by the summer of 2010 she had begun to include new works by emerging and established artists, which compelled her to open her own storefront on Main Street in the Panama Hotel Building.

Cullom Gallery was always my favorite and most anticipated stop of Pioneer Square Art Walk. The selection of works featured often wove the traditional style of woodblock prints with contemporary concepts. Cullom left the brick-and-mortar model for a mobile and online model in 2013, giving her more freedom to collaborate and introduce art into non-traditional settings, including pop-up events in hotel lobbies and apartment high-rises. Beth Cullom successfully brought the gallery space to the people, making it more accessible and inviting to people who might have perceived barriers to entry.

In April of 2015, Beth Cullom was diagnosed with cancer and has since elected to begin the process of closing Cullom Gallery in order to spend time with her family and devote time to getting well. Hence, in support of their former colleague and a vital force for art in the city, Davidson Galleries’ is making their anniversary auction a benefit for Cullom. A portion of proceeds from silent auction of 150 pieces and a live auction of sixty pieces will go to support Cullom and her family as she undergoes treatment.

A print catalogue of all pieces included in the auction is now available, and its a brilliant collection. If you are unable to attend the auction, running from 5 to 9 PM, absentee bids will be accepted for both the silent and live auction. The items for the silent auction are now on view in the gallery, through September 17. The full preview of works from both live and silent auctions will be on view in the gallery on September 15.

Everyone at Vanguard Seattle wishes the best for Beth Cullom, thanks her for her work, and thanks Davidson Galleries for their generous support at this time.
