My various black blazers are the workhorses of my wardrobe over the fall and winter seasons. The various styles—leather sleeves, cropped, and a boyfriend—are my go-to for bringing any look up a notch, from dresses to denim. But as spring approaches, I have been in the mood to lighten things up. I had yet to find a white blazer that didn’t say “lab coat” to me, until I spotted the MM6 by Maison Martin Margiela Sheer Blazer. This collarless single button blazer is all over sheer cotton that has both edge and elegance to it and it is my Vogue a Trois for this week.

Sheer Genius

I love a blazer over a dress, especially when it’s a little unexpected. The sheerness of this Zara dress is just one of the reasons I love it so much. Its pleats and asymmetrical hem are a few more. The d’Orsay pointed toe flat is huge right now and the 3.1 Phillip Lim Devon Spotted Calf Hair is a very modern take on it. For this look, I want jewelry with genuine flair, and The Base Project Etched Cuff Bracelets offer just that. The Base Project partners with African artisans to produce jewelry in accordance with Fair Trade principles to create work and essential income for women and their families. These cuffs are hand carved by artisans in Namibia from recycled plastic piping. Cuff and roll the blazer sleeves to just below your elbow and wear one cuff on each arm. The John Hardy Batu Dot Hoop earrings echo the colors from the cuffs with Sterling silver and hematite. The Serpui Marie Giraffe box clutch has the most amazing mosaic and mother-of-pearl detailing and is a charming pop of color.

The ASOS shift dress is decidedly modern with a waxed colorblock fabric, flattering cut in shoulders, and an exposed zipper. Don’t be afraid to mix white and cream; it is elegant and works well with the colorblocking. These Chloe Crisscross Cantilever Runway Wedge in black rock my world, and you get extra points if you can say that lengthy name of these shoes three times super fast. ☺ Kara Ross’ bags have a great architectural feel to them, and the Priscilla Python Fold-Over Clutch in opulent iridescent python is a stunner. This look deserves stand-out jewelry and the fab John Hardy Bamboo Lava Wide Pave Black Sapphire Stack Ring is just that. Finally, wearing an ear cuff doesn’t have to give you a hard edge and it’s a fun trend I urge you to try. The Pamela Love Amethyst Feather Ear Cuff gracefully curves around your ear and makes a statement, but in a subtly beautiful way.

Sheer Genius #3

This spring, pants are a lot of fun. I am a big fan of trousers because not only are they flattering, but having pockets is always a good thing. The Zara Floral Print Trouser is on trend and perfect for our gorgeous blazer. Mix patterns with the Equipment Kyle Contrast Tee that has a contrasting cheerful pattern in the front and back. Since animal prints are the “new neutrals,” I think the Zac Zac Posen Calfhair clutch is an ideal accessory. Keep your feet neutral with the Rachel Roy Ronney Leather Flat in nude and pile on the pearls, like this cluster by J.Crew. Pearls never really left, but they are ubiquitous for spring, and the more the merrier.

The sheer genius of this blazer is that its fabric lets what you have on underneath shine through without taking away from the gorgeousness of the blazer itself. It is a flawless piece that rethinks the blazer look in a fresh and modern way.

    Hi Lisa!

The cluster of pearls is really nice, but I think it would add a little bit of spring fashion if it was a little bit flirtier like the jewelry at https://www.etsy.com/shop/PearlFlowersShop. The selection you chose is very cream on white and it may get lost in the rest of the outfit. The fun flower-shaped jewelry would add a little bit or pop to the outfit.
