Ann Hamilton, an artist recently celebrated by the Henry Art Gallery’s 2014 Gala, has been chosen for the Seattle Waterfront Project. The Henry Art Gallery’s press release states,”Artist Ann Hamilton, who is preparing a transformation of the Henry this fall, has been selected for a $1M commission for the new public piers that will be rebuilt as part of Waterfront Seattle, a large-scale project to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct with 26 acres of new public space, streets, parks, and buildings.”

VanguardSeattle, and many others, are thrilled to see such a high caliber artist, with international acclaim, chosen for this project. Sylvia Wolf, the director of the  Henry Art Gallery states, “Over her career, her thoughtful process of research and creative invention has yielded memorable art installations, both here at the Henry and around the world. Her installations are transformational both for the landscape and for the viewer. We can’t wait to see what she will do with out beloved waterfront.”

Surely we all feel the same.

Claire Reiner is a writer, artist and recent graduate from the University of Washington’s School of Art with a major in Art History. She is interested in recent art movements and subcultures (1950s, 60s, 70s) and how they have shaped present perceptions and practices of art. She grew up in Southern California and moved to Seattle in 2010. She is quite influenced by the unique geography of both places and enjoys hiking and exploring the Pacific Northwest. Reiner covers visual art exhibits in Seattle and seeks to contribute to a profound and positive artistic community, as well as encourage people to come out and experience art moments for themselves. Reiner is also the Executive Assistant for VanguardSeattle and handles any press related needs.
