Jackets for Spring 2014 offer a multitude of personalities, be it the sporty varsity jacket, the boxy blazer, a cropped moto or a long and lean tuxedo. A girl can never have too many jackets, especially if they have that something extra that make them stand out—a lux fabric, a twist on a classic shape. This week’s Vogue A Trois is Preen’s stand-out bomber jacket. It takes Scottish tartan and softens it with silk and beautiful floral embroidery on the sleeves, making it a hybrid of varsity cool and classic with a sweet twist.

Sweet Tartan #1

The thought of high-waist denim can strike terror in the hearts of some, but I found these Theory Leonata Terni Flare Leg Jeans to be refreshingly cool. There’s no “mom jean” vibe, and to show off the wide leg wear a high shoe, like these gorgeous Robert Clergerie blue suede peep toe wedges with gold rivet details. Tuck in this sassy Rebecca Minkoff Let’s All Go To Mexico T-Shirt to show off your high waistline. I normally go for a cork wedge in the spring and summer, so when I saw this charming Donald J. Pliner Patent Cork Joanna Clutch, I fell in love. A little gold and cork combination hoop earring from Liz Claiborne is the perfect accessory to wrap up this look.

Sweet Tartan #2

The silk fabric of this jacket make it a little more posh than some of the more casual varsity jackets, so wearing it with a sweet dress makes perfect sense. I loved grabbing the bit of yellow from the embroidery flowers on the sleeve and matching it to a pop of color dress, like this this one from Zara. Designer Sophia Webster has been knocking ‘em dead with her vibrant, personality-packed shoes at Fashion Week, so I thought a pair of her Lois Polka-Dot Slingback Wedges would keep the party going. Mini bags are also huge right now (although prices for designer mini bags are decidedly NOT mini…) and the Prada Saffiano Mini Crossbody Clutch stole my heart. Rock some Jimmy Choo Tita shades with this fab look.

Sweet Tartan #3

The little Tartan bomber is one of those chameleon type jackets that can be the finishing touch on dressy attire or can embellish a lowkey ensemble. I am a big fan of distressed denim, especially come springtime when you won’t feel the cold whistle through the distressed parts of your jeans! One of my favorite denim labels, Current/Elliott, makes The Stiletto Destroyed Boyfriend Jean that has the perfect bit of trim slouch in a gorgeous light blue color. Ted Baker London mixes street and sweet with their metal tip floral Luceey pumps and they are super sexy with the cropped denim. Madewell hits it out of the park as usual with their Linen New York Infield Tee. And I love Seattle based jewelry designer Joanna Morgan’s pieces. The unique design of the Shield Ring stands out, and it comes in antique, all sterling silver, or sterling silver and brass, so there are lots of choices. Add the Joanna Morgan Alana Stud Earrings for perfect understated cool.

With all the chatter on spring’ s “must-haves” it can be overwhelming trying to figure out what you need to freshen up your wardrobe for a new season. I love that this jacket has a bomber jacket shape, which is very of the moment, made with a traditional Tartan silk, which is classic, and embroidery, which is genius.
